Welcome to the Bellingen Community Arts Council website. The BCAC has been promoting the arts in the Bellingen Shire community since 1996 when it was incorporated as a non-profit association.
Over the years the BCAC has become a major cultural force and currently boasts over 300 members. Since 2005, we have run a year round program of art exhibitions at our wonderful community gallery, Nexus, located at the Old Butter Factory in Bellingen. An important focus of the BCAC is to make the Nexus gallery available to local artists, some of whom may not otherwise have the opportunity to exhibit in a commercial gallery environment.
Three members’ group shows are held each year with the remainder of the year featuring exhibitions by solo or groups of artists. The gallery’s exhibition schedule is currently booked for the next three years. The long waiting list demonstrates the success of the Nexus gallery.
A major activity of the BCAC is the annual Bellingen Art Prize. This is a significant art competition offering a prize pool of well over $10,000. Held in the famous historic Bellingen Memorial Hall over the October long weekend, the show attracts more than 200 entries each year and is judged by eminent Australian artists.
In 2008, the BCAC introduced the annual Bellingen Youth Art Prize, which offers a major prize of $1000 plus a number of lesser prizes, to encourage the young artists of the region to create and exhibit outstanding art works.
The BCAC is a partner in the Bellingen Shire Creative Arts Scholarship at Southern Cross University. The other partners are the Bellingen Shire Council, the Bellingen Chamber of Commerce,
All of the endeavours of the Bellingen Community Arts Council are run entirely by volunteers. We look forward to seeing you at our events.
